Call for Papers

 

The Association for Economic and Development Studies on Bangladesh (AEDSB) will conduct a (two) special session(s) in the following conference,

 

BANGLADESH IN THE 21ST CENTURY

 

A two-day Conference at Harvard University

(Friday & Saturday June 13 & 14, 2008) organized by

Bangladesh Development Initiative (BDI)

&

Democracy and Development in Bangladesh Forum (DDBF)

&

The Ash Institute for Democratic Governance & Innovation

 John F. Kennedy School of Government

 

If interested, please submit an abstract/paper on any of the traditional areas in economics with special reference to Bangladesh.

 

Suggested topics include,

 

Ø      Poverty Alleviation 

Ø      Millennium Development Goals

Ø      Long Term Planning and Economic Development

Ø      Environmental Concerns

Ø      Capital markets

Ø      Agricultural Policy and Food Sufficiency

Ø      Corruption

Ø      Industrialization

Ø      Readymade Garment Exports

Ø      Microfinance and Economic Empowerment

Ø      Urbanization and Transportation

Ø      Energy Sector

Ø      Trade policy and Foreign Investment

Ø      Role of International Donors and Agencies

Submission Procedures

 

Papers may be submitted based on the following guidelines:

 

  1. An abstract (1,500 words) should be submitted by November 15, 2007; please include the full name, institutional affiliation, phone numbers, and current contact addresses of all authors, including email addresses.
  2. The abstracts will be reviewed and authors notified of the acceptance of their papers by December 15, 2007. If accepted, the full-length paper will be due by February 15, 2008. Instructions for preparing the full-length paper will be transmitted later.
  3. The paper should be based on original research and not submitted or published elsewhere.
  4. Publication of the papers: (a) authors/presenters will receive a CD of the Proceedings containing the accepted papers (b) papers presented in the conference would be considered for publication in Journal of Bangladesh Studies (JBS), a peer-reviewed journal on Bangladesh studies, published twice a year by BDI (c) accepted papers may also be published by BDI in the form a book after appropriate editorial consideration. In that event, the authors who register for the conference will receive a copy of the book.
  5. AEDSB reserves the right to accept or reject a submission.

Conference Related Information

 

Detailed registration information will be forthcoming. The registration fee for the conference will be $200 for the presenters. This fee will cover access to all the sessions for both days, lunches, ticket to the cultural program on day 2 and a copy of the intended book(s). The cultural program will be held on the evening of Saturday June 14, 2008 (Time and location TBD). The registration fees for the attendees who will not be presenting papers will be $100 ($50 for student attendees and presenters). Hotel rooms will also be blocked out near the venue at preferential prices, details of which will be provided subsequently. Directions to the venue will be provided later.
